About Tim McDonnell and His Family Business

Tim McDonnell has been working in this industry for 35 years. During that time, he has worked on the renewal projects at the Festival Theatre and the Avon Theatre. Tim has spent 8 months at the Bruce Nuclear Plant and has actually worked inside the reactor chamber during shutdown. Before that, he had worked with his father as a carpenter and farmer, creating and repairing all kinds of farm buildings and machinery. They ran a custom planting business, planting grain and corn for other farmers, and also offered custom baling of hay and straw.

McDonnell Carpentry Ltd is a family-run business. Tim’s wife Brenda is an interior designer and fine arts teacher. Tim often draws on her insight into design to help customers make decisions. Brenda has drawn and designed a number of their home renovation and restoration projects.

Tim’s three boys work for him; the two boys are licenced carpenters and take an active role in the business and customer relations.

The family has a 1979 36-foot sailboat that they restored as a family and sailed out of Bayfield. They have taken it on many trips to the North Channel and made 16-hour passages in 10-foot waves. The boys and Tim are accomplished sailors and are often asked to crew on other boats.

We have established a large base of repeat clientele in the residential, retail, and bed and breakfast business sectors in Stratford. We also have a large network of other contractors and subcontractors that we work with. This enables us to not only take a job from "concept to completion," but we also look after all the details involved in making the transformation as seamless as possible.
